Implant Treatment

Implant Treatment

Considering the rapid advancement of technology today, treatment methods are both simplifying and providing more permanent solutions. It would be accurate to say that permanent solutions are directly related to technological advancements. Additionally, implant therapy is a treatment method that can be examined in the same context. So, how is implant treatment performed?

Missing teeth are crucial for both our health and smile’s appearance. Their absence can lead to health issues and disrupt our smile’s aesthetics. Additionally, missing teeth can cause adjacent teeth to shift, affecting alignment. Therefore, treating missing teeth, including through implant therapy, is essential.

Implant therapy is also beneficial for health reasons. But first, let’s understand what it is and how it serves various purposes.

What is an Implant?

An implant is a method used to treat missing teeth. It’s considered one of the most durable and closest replacements to a natural tooth. Made of titanium, the implant is like a screw that takes the place of your missing tooth. Artificial teeth, or prostheses, are then attached to these titanium screws, perfectly fitting the space of your missing tooth, resulting in a seamless treatment

When we refer to implant treatment, one of the most critical factors is its non-damaging effect on other teeth and roots. If your other teeth are problem-free, implant treatment won’t negatively impact them, ensuring the completion of the treatment successfully. This non-invasive characteristic is often cited as one of the reasons why implant treatment is preferred.

Who Can Receive Implant Treatment?

Implant treatment is typically suitable for individuals aged 18 and above. This is because it’s administered to those with fully developed bone and dental structures. Before proceeding with implant treatment, a comprehensive assessment, including X-rays, is conducted to evaluate jaw structure and determine suitability for the procedure.

Therefore, undergoing an X-ray examination is essential before considering implant treatment. Dentists routinely request X-rays to ensure optimal outcomes and the suitability of implant treatment for each individual

Why is Implant Treatment Applied?

-Implant treatment is used when there are no teeth in the upper or lower jaw, making conventional dentures unusable due to bone loss, or when the support structures for dentures need treatment.

-If significant gaps are left by missing large teeth, implant treatment may be necessary to fill these areas

-Implant treatment can also be applied in cases where only a single tooth is lost from the mouth. If other teeth are problem-free, implant treatment can be performed after a single tooth extraction. This is applicable for a single missing tooth only

How Is Implant Treatment Performed?

Implant treatment is performed with local anesthesia applied to the oral area of the patient. This procedure is entirely carried out by the dentist. However, the anesthesia is administered in mild doses.

Implant treatment is typically completed in two stages, depending on preference. After the drilling process, temporary prostheses may be placed on the implant if deemed appropriate. Subsequently, after necessary measurements and fittings, the permanent prosthesis is applied. This initial phase is considered the first stage, with no defined healing period.

The second stage involves covering the implant after drilling and allowing time for healing. During this healing period, the wound closure and recovery are expected.

In both stages, a healing period of 3 months for the lower jaw and 6 months for the upper jaw is typically required. In some cases, dental implant treatment can be adjusted to immediately attach the tooth. Depending on the condition of the gums and jaw structure, the patient can eat and use the tooth immediately. However, this isn’t applicable to every implant treatment.

What is Zirconium Implant Treatment?

Zirconium implants are presented as the new generation of implant treatment developed after titanium implants. They appear to be more advanced, more durable, and more robust than titanium implants. Zirconium implant procedures can be a bit more costly than titanium implant treatments. However, this cost varies depending on the treatment center.

Zirconium is not only used in implant treatment but also in regular dental treatment. Zirconium is one of the preferred treatment methods by patients because it is the closest material to the original tooth whiteness and the most durable material.

Why Is Implant Treatment Necessary?

Implant treatment is primarily considered when there are missing teeth. It’s an option for individuals over 18, given suitable gum tissue.

For those seeking dental restoration, implant treatment may be suggested after examining X-rays and palate structure. If damaged teeth and other options are considered and implant treatment is deemed suitable, it can be chosen. Additionally, if missing teeth are an issue, implant treatment is an option, with materials like titanium or zirconium available for selection
